Internet download speeds grew over 30 % in 2017 for both desktop & mobile connections as compared to a year earlier, according to new data from internet speed-test company Ookla. That makes the average download speed 40 Mbps for broadband & 20 Mbps for mobile
With a mean global speed of 20.28 Mbps, mobile downloads increased 30.1% over the last 12 months & mobile uploads increased 38.9%. A global average of 40.11 Mbps makes fixed broadband downloads 97.8% faster than mobile & this speed increased 31.6% during the same period. Uploads over fixed broadband showed the smallest increase of 25.9%.

In November 2017, 119 countries boasted a faster mobile download speed than the global average while 134 were slower. On the fixed broadband side, 71 countries & regions beat the global average download speed and 185 were slower.
