Meerkat, Periscope get competition from Indian app InstaLively

Meerkat, Periscope, here’s some competition for you from India. InstaLively is an Android livestream app for live streaming video streams from your phone straight to YouTube.

While Meerkat & Twitter’s own Periscope are already popular live streaming & sharing apps, InstaLively from India hopes to stand out & do better with certain innovations of its own.

For starters, there’s a strong Google element to everything about this app. Unlike Meerkat & Periscope, Instalively doesn’t have to process or store videos on its own servers because it makes use of YouTube for video storage.

It’s not just about bandwidth, because InstaLively gets to wash its hands off a lot of messy issues associated with live video streaming.

Think copyrights, obscene content, privacy settings & other such issues which are automatically handled by YouTube. You can even use Google tools to monetize live streams & video in your YouTube channel.

There’s also the fact that it’s an Android app that is in beta & will soon be available on Google Play.

To add to all this, the New Delhi-based startup has received US $120,000 in seed funding from investors, including Google India Managing Director Rajan Anandan.

Another thing that makes Instalively better is the ease of use. One click lets you stream your feed straight to YouTube, & you can just as easily share it on Facebook & Twitter, & also as links on WhatsApp, email or SMS.

Other advantages include the fact that the streams can be seen by people directly, without having to use a smartphone or the Instalively app.

Some of these features are included to make sure the app can be used to stream videos on the 3G networks in India. For the record, Instalively does allow you to livestream HD streams at 720p.

India-based InstaLively was co-founded in 2014 by Karthik Vaidyanathan & Prakhar Khanduja.
