Here’s how to make your bot speak in many languages

multilingual bots

If you’re a bot developer, the Cyrano Application Programming Interface (API) will allow your bot to chat in a bunch of languages using a mixture of AI-based machine translation & human translation. You’ll be able to extend the reach of your bot to include speakers of over 20 languages.

The makers of Cyrano claim you’ll be able to integrate practically any bot platform with their API in less than 1 hour, allowing you to chat with a large chunk of the world’s population in the process. The way the API works is, it starts out by automatically translating a user’s message so that the bot can understand it, then the bot transparently replies in the user’s language by having Cyrano automatically translating the bot’s message. Finally, if the user doesn’t understand the automatic translation, the user can request a human translator, & Cyrano will take a few minutes to reply, which feeds back into the system & helps to improve future translations.

The automatic translations are done using advanced machine translation, which resolves the vast majority of common translation tasks. Cyrano only draws from its community of over 40K translators if its automated translation is poor & the user has trouble understanding it, which is a good thing considering that other machine translation providers, like Google Translate, won’t give you that option, so more often than not, when things get rough, you just end up with gobbledygook.

Cyrano claims support for a long, growing list of languages. At the moment these are:

Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, Finish, French, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Spanish (Latin American), Swedish, Thai, Turkish & Vietnamese.

The Cyrano API is currently in Beta & you need to message its developers Unbabel, the California Bay Area,USA-based company if you want to try it out.
