Apple executives this morning (Sept 7, 2016) announced a host of new products including an updated Apple Watch, but the main attraction was the iPhone 7 & 7 Plus: both will be available to order on September 9, & will begin shipping a week.

The new iPhone 7 will retail for the same staring price as the iPhone 6, but the features of the new phone was what had most people riveted to their seats as Apple Chairman Tim Cook listed them off in his keynote at a much awaited event in San Francisco.

The phone sports a classy new seamless uni-body design & is built in 2 new finishes: matte black & high gloss jet black. It’s splash & water resistant & comes in 2 sizes: a 4.7-inch iPhone 7 & a 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, both made from strong 7000 series aluminum.

A new stereo speaker system is introduced which is 2x louder than the iPhone 6, but the new iPhone will no longer have a headphone jack built in, instead it will come with a Lightning port to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter & it will ship with EarPod headphones, which might go a long way towards heading off the controversy regarding Apple’s doing away with the ubiquitous headphone jack.

The phone will also have new wireless AirPods, which will ship a little later than the phone (late October). It uses proprietary wireless tech which Apple claims will save battery life compared to Bluetooth devices & include their own coms chip onboard.

The iPhone 7’s new cameras will be amongst the best available on any smartphone. The base model has a 12 MP rear camera & a 7 MP front-facing HD camera. It comes with new features like Quad-LED True Tone flash, wide color capture & optical image stabilization, f/1.8 aperture & a 6-element lens, to enhance photos & videos in low light. The 7 Plus ships with 2 rear cameras, which will let users see a live preview with shallow depth of field.

The camera system continues Apple’s tradition of adding superb image signal processing through its A10 Fusion chip, which besides being lightning fast at 2x the iPhone 6’s speed, uses machine learning to improve image quality. Also included are faster focus, improved white balance & local tone mapping.

The new retina HD display is 25% brighter than the iPhone 6’s, has a wider cinema standard color gamut. The 4.7-inch display comes with a 1334×750 resolution & the 5.5-inch a whopping 1920×1080.

The new phone also has higher wireless connectivity capability with 3x faster LTE speed than the iPhone 6 at 450 Mbps & up to 25 LTE bands, giving you improved worldwide roaming.

Apple also announced the new Apple Watch Series 2, also available September 16, with built-in GPS & water resistance at up to 50 meters, a faster dual-core processor, a display that is 2 times faster than its predecessor & it’s made from a new ceramic material. Apple also announced that an Apple Watch Nike + watch will be available in October.
