‘Setapp’ is a platform containing curated Apple Mac apps. It also allows you to subscribe to the best Mac apps available.
Currently, it has more than 60 premium apps. In addition, on their list, they have categories such as productivity tools, personal finance, coding tools among others.
According to the developers, the apps have been triple checked & tested for quality. In addition, they give you free upgrades of the products you’ve downloaded.You are never given trial versions or updates with stripped down functionality.
How Setapp works
To access the platform you need to first sign up for an account. You can then install the Setapp client. After installation of the tool, it creates a folder in Finder. The apps will be in this folder. You just need to click on any app to open it.
Setapp’s monthly subscription fee gives you full access to all apps on the platform without any additional payments. This means once you subscribe you totally own the apps. If your device already has some of the apps in Setapp, you can choose to either keep using the original version or switch to the Setapp version.
Setapp has app teasers, which are a neat preview window of the app. Therefore, you can check out an app without downloading its full version. Other apps remain in teasers until you decide to download them. To use it in your Mac your device must run on OS X10.10 or higher. Besides, you must have around 110 Mb of free storage. The platform’s teaser apps will require an extra 300Mb space.
The advantage with these apps is that they are free from ads & in-app purchases. If you buy a new Mac you can keep using Setapp on it but only after deactivating it in your old device. Setapp also supports developers by ensuring they market your app in addition to helping you to distribute it to the users. They also help developers with recurring revenue without the need for the developer to release paid upgrades.
