From next week: a beefed up Yahoo! email search tool

This could be the start of something big. A story in the New York Times has said that from next week, Yahoo! Mail would be getting a beefed-up search feature for its 255 million users.

So what does that mean? Essentially, if you, as a Yahoo! Mail user, wanted to know of an airline flight timetable, all you needed to do was to go into the search task bar, key in the words, & the results would contain all references to that airline.

The premise this search engine was built on was that email users used their emails to store & archive almost everything – images, documents, whatever, which was a treasure trove of information.

Yahoo! Mail search will do even 1 better than others. It will narrow your search in a way as to throw up only relevant results. In the airline example above, it will not give all the e-flyers related to that airline or every e-marketing newsletter but only the relevant stuff.

Yahoo! had only recently changed the terms of its search partnership with Microsoft, giving the former new freedom to develop search offerings. While Google’s Gmail has a search, it worked in a different manner compared to what Yahoo! email search, said the report.
