‘Eclips’ lets you clip, save & share Online videos

eclipse

This new Web-based service lets you organize videos into your personal collections & share your favorite moments with friends via a built-in community.

Are you an avid watcher & sharer of YouTube, Vimeo or Facebook videos? Do you increasingly make use of Internet videos to amuse yourself or to supplement work or school assignments, marketing or educational activities, etc?  If so, you’ve probably wished there was a way to share, or have somebody share with you, a snippet, or favorite clip within the video, rather than have to wade through the whole thing to get to the good bits.

Eclips’ steps in to fill this need; you no longer need to sit still through a 20 minute video tutorial when what really interests you is a mere 2 minute snippet. Eclips’s aim is to make a “clipping” of video segments as “commonplace as dog-earring a page in a book”. With their service, which centrally organizes all your videos in one place, you no longer need to manage a half dozen different playlists from a whole bunch of hosts, & there’s no longer any need to remember where the actual videos came from.

It’s also a community where you can exchange your clipped discoveries & share them with other users. You get a feed, which is a collection of clips that are curated by people you know, so you can be pretty certain of their relevance to your interests & of their worth. The community also allows you to meet new people with likes similar to your own. It can be a fun way to bounce around some of the best video moments on the internet.

Videos can be clipped from YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Vine, and Vimeo, but plans are under way to extend the service to practically any video source on the Web.

At this time, participation is via an invite-only beta, but you can request a private invite link via email to enter the beta test program. It’s limited to 10,000 free sign ups on a first come first served basis. Eclips is led by Los Angeles, California-based developer & CEO Daniel Meng.
