This Website has been tracking the Virtual Reality (VR) set Oculus for a long time, so when Facebook recently showcased the next in the series, the Oculus ‘Santa Cruz’, we were highly interested. But the Santa Cruz is in its early prototype stage, & has only been tested by a handful of people; it’s a hush, hush project, still.

Founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg announced the new product at the VR developers’ meet, the ‘Oculus Connect 3’ event. A few people were allowed to test it, but that’s that. They could not take photos of it, so we still don’t know for sure what it looks like. So what you’ll read next is 2nd/3rd hand reports…& of course, the Oculus blog from where we have re-published the images.

Oculus may have not released any details on the components that go into this new prototype, but is definitely known is that it’s going to have a very powerful mobile System-on-a-Chip. According to the few testers, the weight of it feels pretty good regardless of the battery pack on the back. It’s two highlights are its wireless capabilities (battery pack) & positional tracking, mixing the good qualities of mobile & desktop VR into one solution: The Santa Cruz. The positional data is gathered & processed by using a new technique called ‘Inside-out Tracking’, featuring 4 embedded cameras in the front.
