‘Compressify’ compresses & optimizes video file size for Online viewing

compresify

If you’re looking for a way to cut back on your video production costs by taking advantage of savings in storage & bandwidth costs by up to 60%, while maintaining practically identical quality to the original uncompressed files, then you may want to try transcoding with ‘Compressify’.

This product uses an algorithm that automatically detects optimal reduced bitrates for video files & re-encodes the files using Google’s new VP9 codec for the Web-compatible WebM format. The developers claim that if you start with uncompressed, source video files, they get compressed by 20-60% and result in visually identical frames & the same browser compatibility as the originals.

Not a lot of information on this product is available online, but the product Website offers a way to upload a file of your own that you can get transcodified by their servers, with a max size limit of 8MB. A sample video file is shown on the page that shows no visible difference in quality between a 1.6MB original & a 0.8MB compressed version (a compression rate of 50%).

Compressify is being developed by Sydney, Australia-based engineer Fraser Hemphill. If you want to do your own transcoding & integrate Compressify into your own project that can include automation & optimization of video compression, you can request access to an API that is offered on the Site. Accessing Compressify’s API gets around the public server’s load limitation & allows you to compress unlimited file sizes, as well as adding a bunch of other features.

If you’re an avid watcher of the hit TV comedy ‘Silicon Valley’, you may have noticed certain similarities between Compressify & ‘Pied Piper’, the company that the show is about, & that also develops a video compression product. It will be interesting to see if the fortunes of the fictional & the real companies follow similar paths.
