‘BetterApp’ integrates WhatsApp with your Mac desktop

Until now the only way to use WhatsApp was by means of your smartphone or with a rather lackluster Web app on your desktop browser that provided limited functionality. ‘BetterApp’ is an elegantly designed native OS X app that integrates seamlessly into your Mac’s desktop environment.

WhatsApp is undoubtedly king of all social messaging platforms, & people the world over use it to stay in touch with colleagues, friends & family. If you’re busy working from your desktop computer at your office, it’s a lot easier & convenient to stay on the desktop to message them instead of constantly switching back & forth to your phone.

With this app you still need to wirelessly tether your mobile device to your desktop, as is the case with WhatApp’s official Web app, but the similarities end there. Apple Mac users love the unique design of their OS & BetterApp is “easy on the eyes and everything is where you expect it to be”. It comes with a basic app theme & a stylish ‘Dark Theme’, letting you switch easily between the 2.

BetterApp for WhatsApp also comes with a number of interesting features that differentiate it from the Web app & the mobile app. For example, 1 mouse click can silence all notifications & sounds,  & if you don’t have time to make a call, but still need to voice a response, just record & send a voice message on your Mac. It also lets you use your Mac’s multimedia capabilities so you can take a photo with your webcam from within the app, then give it an individual touch with one of the many filters to choose from & share the result with your contacts. Likewise, it also lets you record a video & share it or make a video-call with FaceTime.

The App was developed by the German firm appgineers & needs OS X 10.11 or later & a 64-bit processor to run on your Mac & is compatible with a wide range of smartphone platforms:

  • iOS 8.1 or later
  • Android 2.1 or later
  • Windos Phone 8.0 & 8.1
  • Nokia S60
  • Nokia S40 EVO
  • BlackBerry
  • BlackBerry 10

It can be downloaded from the Mac App Store here for US $0.99.
