AOL has announced it would be shuttering the Alto email service & app on December 10. The announcement was made on its blog.
Alto made its debut in October 2012. The reason given for the closure is:
Innovation and product development continue to be what we do, and the Alto team will be shifting its focus to something new. We plan to incorporate many of our learnings and technologies across current and future products and experiences.
