8i’s ‘Holo’ app lets you mix real people & holograms in photos & videos – New app

With the iPhone version of this app based on Apple’s new ARKit virtual reality (VR) framework, you can move around 3D holograms of people & animals. You can interact with them as if they were actually there & share photos & videos with friends.

Holo was released earlier this the summer for both iOS & Android, but where it really shines is on the Apple platform, where it is optimized for ARKit’s enhanced VR environment. With the iOS app you’ll be able to walk around a hologram character as if it’s in the same room as you.

The app comes with a large library of over 3000 holographic images & videos that you can combine with your own creations & put together exciting & immersive worlds. The holograms are life-sized but you can resize them, rotate them or move them to set up your scenes.

Some of the holograms available that you can choose are famous athletes, actors, dancers, social media influencers, but also fun original characters & animals… New characters are added to Holo weekly. You can save your Holo photos & videos, in either portrait or landscape mode, to your phone’s gallery & share them with friends.

Other interesting holograms available are astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Spider-man characters, actor John Hamm, Superfruit (pod duso), martial artist Anderson Silva, Debby Ryan, Matt Steffanina, the Fall Out Buy’s llama, a Trump impersonator & pro skater Nyjah Huston.

8i is based in Wellington, NZ & Los Angeles, California, USA. According to their site, “Our proprietary technology transforms video from an array of cameras into a photo-realistic 3D hologram of a human that can be viewed from any angle, on any device for virtual, augmented or mixed reality.”
