When you talk about workplace chat apps, ‘Slack’ may be the 1st app that pops up in your mind. With the current digital transformation where even email is “slow”, more & more team collaboration software are being developed.

Although Slack is a great chat tool, some say it still lacks some features. Below, we look at some of the available free alternatives that are giving Slack a run for the money.

  1. BITRIX24

Bitrix24 is often cited as one of the best free project management tools. This is because of the integration of project management into the chat client it provides. It has integrations for social media, task & project management, document management, team calendars & email. Also, it possesses telephony capabilities as well as customizable Web-based lead forms.

The integration present in this app is still limited, & its interface is quite limited. Despite its unique capabilities, it lacks phone support. It is multi-platform as long as the Internet is present. On the hand, it has some of the premium components offered by Slack.

  1. ROCKET CHAT

Rocket Chat is multi-platform, & is highly configurable. It’s code is 100% open source under the MIT license. In addition, it has a ‘live’ chat integration for Sites, audio & video conferencing, screen sharing, theming, branding & white label installation packages.

It also allows for anonymous use. Rocket Chat’s major drawback is that there is no way to block new registrations.

  1. RYVER

Ryver offers an entirely free chat platform experience for the team. It offers free unlimited chat storage, data, guests, posts, search, groups, & users. In addition to chat, Ryver uses Facebook-like posts to allow your team to discuss specific subjects that spawn threaded, topical discussions.

Its interface is much more organized compared to Slack. In addition, it also supports Zapier. Administrators in this app can delete messages. However, Ryver has its share of failures, for example, it lacks video calls or screen sharing. The user might find it hard using this app when looking for notification options for keywords or visual customizations. Messages conveyed in this app are one-to-one only.

  1. FLEEP

Another Slack alternative is Fleep. It’s a messaging client with a focus on team integration. It has a platform for reaching out & chatting to other organizations without leaving the client. It has an integration with Google Hangouts, making it easy to have an audio or video call. There’s email integration to chat without using the application hence the ability to chat with individuals or groups, even if they don’t have an account. These capabilities make it easier to manage files & tasks in conversations.

Fleep is multi-platform which means it is useable on a PC or Mac, Android or iPhone.

  1. MOXTRA

A chat platform also with a great project management integration, Moxtra has 2 free versions on offer,i.e. ‘Individual’ & ‘Business’. The Individual version provides 5 service integrations, allows 5 participants per meeting, help desk functionality & an administrative dashboard. It keeps all your necessary items saved in 1 convenient spot.

The present binders keep all related Content in 1 place & collect, view, & share without having to jump through multiple applications & devices. The user can view & use anywhere. It has a significant number of integrations to choose from & offers end-to-end encryption for the team. Moxtra can be integrated on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android & Apple Watch.
