When we talk about video sharing Websites, there is no doubt that the US-based YouTube is the giant in the industry. Nevertheless, despite the massive popularity that YouTube enjoys, there are other similar video sharing platforms.

Here we will look at 5 alternatives to YouTube:

  1. DailyMotion

2nd only to YouTube, DailyMotion is 1 of the largest video sharing websites. You can use DailyMotion to make your videos go viral. The interface is quite similar to the 1 initially used by YouTube. As such, if you have used YouTube before, you should find it easy to use DailyMotion.

The difference between DailyMotionYouTube is largely the amount of data that you can upload. While YouTube allows a slightly higher video resolution, length & size, DailyMotion allows videos of up to 60mins in length, 4 GB in size & of resolutions not exceeding HD 1080. Nevertheless, you can use the MotionMaker to get rid of the size limits.

  1. Vimeo

Vimeo is another video sharing tool that allows users to upload & watch videos Online. It has quite a unique interface for browsing videos. The Home page contains a sign-up form which new users can use to register for accounts on Vimeo. The videos on Vimeo  are carefully selected by the ever experienced staff. You may prefer Vimeo to YouTube for one reason, in particular, that is, unlike YouTube, ads will not interrupt you while watching videos.

To upload videos on Vimeo is absolutely free although there is a limit to the size of Content you can upload for free on a weekly basis.

  1. Flickr

Although Flickr is primarily intended for posting images, there is an allowance for users to post & share videos as well. However, before you can upload videos, you will need to sign up for a Flickr account. You can either set up a regular account which gives you 1TB of storage memory. A pro account, on the other hand, has unlimited storage capacity for images & videos.

  1. Metacafe

Although not as popular as YouTube, Metacafe is as old as they can get. Metacafe has been hosting videos for as early as 2003 & it has been in existence longer than YouTube! On Metacafe, you will experience an entirely different interface. One advantage though is that on Metacafe, the media categories are framed in an orderly manner with clear distinction. Metacafe is however not very reliable because of the random restrictions to uploading of media that they impose from time to time.

  1. Vevo

For music Content, Vevo is perhaps more popular than the majority of YouTube alternatives. With its programming tool which highly creative & centered around music, Vevo has become a popular site for individuals looking for the best latest hits.

Unlike other platforms, Vevo is like an enterprise; its music videos seem to be coming from licensed music distribution partners. What this implies on the upside is that the videos are authentic & of high quality. Unlike YouTube, however, Vevo imposes some restrictions on certain brands of music videos which eventually limits the choice of music videos available.

Any more additions to this list are welcome. Write in.
