Ever shared a
link on the Net? Occasionally, you may have been told off by a friend
that what you sent to him was "really old stuff". Now, in order to
understand whether the link you are about to share with a friend is
fresh or not, there's a service called IsitOld that allows you to check the "newness" of the information. So, you don't look like an ignoramus by sharing old links.
Always a problem, sharing of links, isn't it? You read something Online, a Web Page, some Content, maybe a Tweet, you like it so much that youwanna share it with a dear friend. You send across the link. Then what happens? The friend's response leaves you upset - "Oh that's quite old".
Now, there's a service called IsitOld which allows you to check the "newness" of the link you are about to share with someone Online. It's very simple to use, like we like it here on What's New On The Net. There is a Search Engine style bar that pops up, you key in the link you are planning to share, & the result will tell you how old it is. Not only that, it will also tell you when it was shared or the 1st time.
IsitOld is a service by Kinda Like A Big Deal run by 2 guys - Oskar Sundberg & Per Hannson. The latter has described himself as a "Swedish advertising dude".

A link with a payment system built in
By: Ask Bob, June 15, 2012
Selling as youshare Online. How does that grab you? What do we do when we exchange
info on the Web? We invariably share a link, right? Now apply the same
formula to selling stuff Online. There's a Startup called Gumroad
which allows you to sell anything that can be shared Online, by sending
across a shortened URL. So, if you have a research report or a short
story or even a page of humor that you think will get you customers, you
can sell using this Startup's facilities.
Apparently, as the story goes, the idea hit teenager Sahil Lavingia, founder of Startup, Gumroad, one fine day - would it not be great if he could send links to his friends a link with a payment system built in it? That germ of an idea turned out to be the foundation of his Startup.
Based in San Francisco, California, USA, Gumroad is on its way, the team, too, having expanded. So, what does it really do? Gumroad like the graphic below depicts, allows you to create, share & sell Online.
Gumroad has its own payment system
built in which is provided to the seller. It allows buyers to pay
through almost all the major credit cards & some debit cards, too.
They claim it is safe & secure & does not store card information
unless you open an account with Gumroad.
Here's how things happen: You create a graphic, you find someone who wants to buy it, you use Gumroad to share the buyer a link, buyer pays through credit/debit card & in turn, gets the graphic file downloaded to his PC.
For providing this service, Gumroad charges a commission - 5% of each transaction. Sellers are free to decide the price tag, it is not Gumroad's business. The service can be used by people in 190 countries, so it is almost universal. Also, you can even sell 'Real World' goods like a T Shirt & so on, using this Startup but not before collecting the shipping details.
We've
all started hearing buzzwords these days like Big Data or Data Mining
or Data Scientist. Clearly, a lot of the Online (& even theOffline
World) has started depending on Data. What is also a fact that much of
this Data is stil in the traditional form - phone numbers, postal
addresses.....Now, there's a Startup that digs up data of your potential or actual customers from the digital world. Called Fliptop,
the essence of this Startup is that it will try & give you the
complete digital information of the customer or brand you want.
Fliptopclaims to provides Social Intelligence, a service that to some could still be an alien concept. So allow me to explain.
Essentially, this Startup uses all open source Data (which means available in the digital world) to connect emails & social identities i.e. Facebook, Twitter or Google+ accounts.
Fliptop has a product called the PeopleGraph. It claims to automatically keep a brand's contact
data "socially fresh," enabling them to personalize
marketing, provide
better support and generate more sales. What it does is to keep
companies updated on a customer's digital footprint by creating a
unified digital personaliy of that particular customer. So, instead of
brands just dealing with an impersonal email address, a customer comes
digitally alive for them since all his/her details likeTwitter handle, photo & location are now available at one spot rather than in compartments or silos.
Fliptop claims to
gather such Social info from the Open Source Data on the Net & is
very strong on privacy issues, not sharing such info with any one else.
Of course, there's a fee that the San Francisco, USA-based Fliptopcharges for this. But it also allows potential clients to undertake a Free trial before they buy the service.
A global bulletin board with a local touch
By: Ask Bob, June 4, 2012
All
of you have heard or seen bulletin boards, right? These are generally
used to post messages like "Help Wanted" or "Apartment on rent", &
so on & so forth. Now, imagine such a bulletin board on a global
level but connected locally. Which means, you in New York or New Delhi
post a message on this bulletin board needing or selling stuff in your
neighbourhood, & others from your locality then connect with you.
That's what this StartupWizeNation is all about.
This Canada-based Startup launched in February this year called WizeNation is a location-based Social bulletin board where users can connect with their neighbours, friends, local businesses & other like-minded people. It's like a global world brought to you locally.
Members can post any type of messages. For example: "I am selling my house"
to "I would like to borrow a ladder" . Once you post your message, you
can expect a reply in the Comments section from people in your
locality.
WizeNation has 4 streams or 'tabs':
* Wizinity: This tab shows all the feeds published by the people residing in your city.
* My Wizi: This tab shows the feeds published by the people in your
postal/zip code area, feeds from your contacts & feeds based on your
interests.
* Biz Wiz: This tab shows feeds from the business community of your city.
* Search: This tab is used for specific searches.
WizeNation has the following sections:

further because we all know what notifications mean.
