22/08 (2125 hrs IST): Sony Ericsson has announced its Live With Walkman Smartphone which has Facebook integration & one-touch access to Sony's music store, says a report by Business Insider.
Sony already had integrated Facebook with the Xperia Play. In the Live With Walkman phone, Facebook will be integrated with your calendars, contacts, photo gallery, among other things.
Also, the new Android device features connectivity with Sony's music store called Music Unlimited.

Google stumps all, decides to acquire Motorola Mobility, provider of handsets
15/08 (1925 hrs IST): Search Engine Google
announced on Monday that it will acquire Motorola Mobility for US $12.5
billion. This, according to a press note, is a 63% premium on what the
Smartphone maker’s shares closed at on Friday.
The acquisition, said Google in a a statement, “will enable it to supercharge the Android
ecosystem.” The company will continue to be run as a separate business.
Analysts say buying a hardware company is "an unusual move" for Google.

OpenFeint going gung-ho on Android
08/08 (2020 hrs IST): USA-based Social Gaming platform OpenFeint has ramped up its presence on the Android
platform, adding 230 games to it in just over 2 months. The firm,
says a report in Mobile Apps Briefing claims to account for 24 of the top 100
paid-for & free games on Android.
In addition, OpenFeint announced that it had started rolling out the first elements
of its “next generation” Social Network on Android, designed to help
promote “user engagement.” OpenFeint's iOS Games will see the new features later
this year.

Apple releases 5th update of iOS5
08/08 (0921 hrs IST): Apple has released the 5th version of its iOS 5 Beta to developers. The new version offers bug fixes, along with other things. It is the 2nd version of Apple’s Beta software to be delivered over-the-air to devices.
The iOS 5 update also allows users to re-download all of the music purchased from iTunes to their phone when they restore from an iCloud backup.
BlueVia Developer platform now in Germany
04/08 (1700 hrs IST):Telefonica has opened its BlueVia
developer platform in Germany. A report by Mobilebusinessbriefing.com
said software companies in Germany can now register as developers for BlueVia & O2 customers can download their 1st BlueVia Apps on their Smartphones. BlueVia is a new global developer platform from Telefonica, one of the world's largest telephone operators.
The
report said the operator will give developers a share of the revenue
generated by the addition of network features into Apps "which could be
“as much as 20 %."
Skype launches iPad App
03/08 (0600 hrs IST): iPad users can finally use Skype App. More than a month after it was expected to make its official debut, the iPad App
for this communication service has been launched. The new App takes
advantage of the tablet's larger screen real estate, making for crisp
and clear video chat over Wi-Fi, say analysts.
There was an element of mystery in the launch though. Barely hours after it was launched on Aug 1, it was pulled out. Skype said it was released prematurelyon Twitter. Then some hours later, on the morning of August 2, Skype re-launched it.

Android captures nearly 50% of global market
02/08 (063 hrs IST): Google's mobile operating system Android has captured "almost" 50% of the global smartphone market, according to industry analysis group Canalys.
According to Canalys: "There were particularly strong performances from Android devices in APAC countries such as South Korea, where it holds a 85% platform share, &Taiwan, where it has 71%."
The next closest competitor is Apple's iOS which has just 19% of the market. Following Apple is Nokia's Symbian. RIM has 12% of the market share, down from 33% a year ago.

tech firm Skyfire has launched an iOS app that allows Flash videos to
be viewed on the iPhone. The app – VideoQ – attempts to address the
problem of Apple not supporting the Flash video format on its devices,
according to a report by Mobile Apps Briefing. Apple has always claimed
that the Adobe-owned technology was unsuited to running on mobile devices.
