Manage all your social sites from one social site

By: Ask Bob, Oct 17,2010

Looks like the season of social networking sites. It is a fact that social networking has become an important facet of the online world. Our webspiders have now unearthed this Startup called Bumpr which basically "brings it alltogether", i.e. you can manage all your social networks from this one site.
Bumpr has been positioned as a “2nd generation social networking platform” that puts all your social and digital sites in one place. In a sense then, it becomes the “mother” of all social sites, not traffic-wise but concept-wise atleast. Because Bumpr allows you, among other things, to manage all your social sites from one spot. The other things you can do using Bumpr is to view and post multi-media directly on to your social streams.Essentially, Bumpr combines your social networks, user generated news, and entertainment, enabling you to consume, create, discover, and share digital content in entirely new ways.
Launched in August 2010 from Omaha, Nebraska, USA, Bumpr is in its beta stage, and up for testing.
Besides the networking aspect, you can do the following on Bumpr: The Bumpr Music Player lets you play your favorite artists and listen to your favorite Internet radio stations including rock, electronic, R&B, jazz.
The Bookmarks Platform is another Social Content application which is user driven. Everything on the Bookmarks page is user-submitted. After you submit the Content, other people read your submission and Bump (Push) what they like best. If your story receives enough Bumps, it is promoted to the front page for other visitors to see. While Bumpr is free to use, you need to register and subsequently log in.

Online dating is old hat. But online dating, that is, your personal and professional socialization combined is something new. This Startup claims to offer just that. Kitwit offers its users both forms of getting to know each other - as a friend and as a professional, all as its management says,"in an extremely safe and comfortable" environment.
Social website KitWit aims to create an online social networking community of people of varied interests from all around the globe, in "a safe and comfortable environment". Its owners say users can use this social platform for both -personal and professional - needs.
Like in other social sites, members can explore their interests by posting their thoughts, their photographs, invite new and old friends, and meet up with singles who have expressed an interest in meeting other singles. Professionally, the site can be used to connect with co-workers and professional from your sphere of work to enhance professional networking.
The site has a separate section called Online Security that gives tips to those using Kitwit for dating purposes. Presuming that online interests translates into the need to meet  your date in the Real World, the website has scores of tips for the 1st meeting. It talks of how to meet the other person in a public place, for example, or to tell a friend or family member of this 1st rendezvous.
Although the site (still in beta) does not have much information on the team behind Kitwit, it is based in Ontario, Canada. You need to be atleast 16 years of age before using this site. Membership is free but one does need to register.

A social networking site for children

If you are a parent who has children between 6-11 years old, or if you are in that age group and are reading this, here is some news. There is now a social networking site exclusively for children . All of us in the Web World know by now that online social networking has become an inevitable part of our online lives. In such a scenario, what about the kids? There are often cases of children as young as 10 years getting on to a social site on the sly. They no longer need do that. ScuttlePad launched in August this year is a social site meant only for the kiddies.
ScuttlePad, a new social networking site only for children launched in August 2010, is also being positioned as a "learning tool" for kids. Its Utah, USA-based owners say it helps the kids' vocabulary as it also helps them construct sentences. ScuttlePad allows kids to build a simple online profile and start connecting with their friends because only "guided communication" is involved with pre-determined words lists. Of course, parents of these 6-11 years old are actively involved in the process.
Parents log their children in to create the latter's profile with a unique user name and password. An e-mail is then to the parent's e-mail address with a link that activates the ScuttlePad account. Then, children are given a brief tutorial to help them get the ropes. They can then start networking, adding friends to their Contacts' List. Its designers claim that adequate care is taken to protect the children's privacy, so there is no danger of personal info leaking out to strangers. All photographs are manually reviewed and approved.
