Most of you, novice as well as regular Internet surfers would have come across this word, one time or the other - Cache. "Clear you Cache" is an oft-heard phrase, online. So, what exactly is a Cache?
Incidentally, the word 'Cache' is derived from the French word for a hiding place, and so is pronounced like 'cash'.
A Cache, in computer terminology, is a component that save data in a manner that it can be retrieved the next time, faster. Whenever requested by a user, this memory /data is served up from the Cache (where it is stored) from a server.
Another way of describing it would be to call it Short-term storage. Having a Cache speeds up computer operations. Eg: Information from a storage disk may be Cached temporarily in high-speed memory so that it can be read & written faster as compared to it being taken directly from the disk itself.
