The Networking of passions, Online
By: Sorab Ghaswalla, Aug 16, 2012
Naroomi has positioned itself as an App for Web Browers that "enhances the Social tendency of Websites". Now, before you go getting all confused, let me explain.
This Italian Startup aims to be a Social Networking Site but like I said not in the classical sense. You download it as an add-on on your Browser. When you have downloaded the "Naroomi dock", Naroomi starts keeping a track of your movements Online. So, in one sense, it is a data collection service. But you can switch on or off the add-on if you want.
Now, lets say, you are interested in fashion. You browse Sites - Websites, Blogs, Facebook Groups, forums - & join the conversation on fashion. Two things - you are not never going to be completely aware of the fountainheads or repositories of information on fashion. Also, once you have started Net surfing for fashion, you may at the end of the day, collect scores of URLs or other destinations but it may become impossible to keep track of all these links on fashion. On both fronts, Naroomi claims to help with all these features:
a) You can collect friends in "tribes"
b) You can collect Pages in "collections". No need to bookmark Sites you like
c) You can comment on any Web Page & thus join a conversation on your passion
d) You can create private or public chat boxes where you can talk to others sharing your passion
e) You can share Pages you have liked with your tribe
Naroomi is in private Beta for now, which means you need to be invited to join. Its a Free add-on & does not require any special system requirements.
This Startup, like I said, is based in Rome. It's the brainchild of Web Development guy Andrea De Santis & Project Management & Corporate PR professional Riccardo Osti.
