An entire universe of Startups on a cruise ship

By: Ask Bob, July 18, 2012

Strictly speaking, Blueseed does not fall within the definition of a Startup, yet. Like I said earlier, this ship will literally sail in the 1st quarter of 2013.

The idea is very simple though -  offering living & office space in a modern tech environment to attract top entrepreneurial & technology talent from all over the world to Silicon Valley (San Francisco, USA), where they can create companies & jobs, & develop disruptive & innovative technologies.

To enter Blueseed, you do not need a visa. Sounds great but it`s a white lie. You do not need a working visa for USA, which is difficult to get, but a tourist visa or a business visa is a must. Among the many Startups that have signed up, there are American Startups as well.

The ship shall be located outside the territorial seas of the United States, 12 nautical miles from the coast of California, in the so-called “contiguous zone”. But you will need to pay to stay on board. There will be a wide assortment of living & office space packages for rent. These would start approximately at US $1,200/person/month for basic accommodations. For comparison, the average monthly rent for a studio in San Francisco is US $1750 as of October 2011, while incubator spaces sell for US $400-$650 per desk.

In addition, each resident will need to deposit in escrow an amount sufficient to cover transportation back to their home country in case of necessity. This amount will be returned when the resident permanently leaves Blueseed.

This Startup is being set up by a team of Internet entrepreneurs & VCs. The Chief Executive officer is Max Marty, who is the former Director of Business Strategy at the Peter Thiel funded Seasteading Institute. For the rest of the team, go to this URL http://www.blueseed.co/about-us.html

I know all of you who read this will have 100 questions about this new venture but best if you go to the Site & get the answers.
